Mere weeks after the vote in Alaska for a ballot involving the repeal of tax breaks for oil companies in the state, British Petroleum has announced that it will be selling part of its assets and will lay off approximately 1/5th of their Alaskan workforce.
Why is this important you may ask? After a vote to save these companies money in the end they will continue to think only for themselves. The side that chose no to newer taxation of the oil companies rode on the idea that these companies would be more likely to hire more Alaskans to increase their work force if taxed less. This announcement proved to be a slap in the face where a scratch on the back was expected. It proves yet again that no large corporation cares for anything more than the amount of money that lands in their pockets.
